In 2014 I was standing in front of a group of seasoned nurses… teaching a class they didn’t want to attend and I didn’t want to teach.
You see, while the class was at least partially regulatory, its focus was missing the gaps in their knowledge and skills. It was focused on things they already knew—an insulting waste of time for any nurse or other seasoned healthcare professional.
Fast-forward to 2022. The pandemic was winding down, but healthcare turnover rates were soaring. New grad nurses and MAs were barely competent before they left. It was a huge money pit for organizations just trying to stay afloat.
I started thinking about my connections, experience, and knowledge and how what I know could help healthcare organizations reduce staff turnover and improve satisfaction with professional development activities.
I have developed an online preceptor class which is the culmination of 10 years teaching and refining an in-person preceptor class.
A colleague has an incredible talent for making even the most boring topics fun with gamification.
